Why Reef Stable Coral are Different
- Accurate Photos: Pictures of coral are edited only to closely represent what the coral will look like in your reef tank, no intentional oversaturation to try and make quick sales.
- Aquacultured Coral: Reef Stable places it's focus on aquaculture first. Any wild-collected coral goes through a full quarantine and dipping routine, and is placed on the farm for a period of time before selling.
- Top-Notch Customer Service: All coral is guaranteed to arrive alive, but when it doesn't, we take care of you. Unlike a number of other retailers that go missing as soon as something goes wrong, Reef Stable will take care of you!
SPS Coral Care & Placement Tips
SPS, or small polyp stony, coral are a hard coral that contains polyps that are rather small in comparison to LPS coral. These small polyps do not allow the coral to get energy from food, leading to more lighting requirements. Acropora like very intense lighting, as high as 400-500 PAR, but can live in as low as 200 PAR. Other SPS such as Montipora and Stylophora can live in as low as 100 PAR, but will reall thrive in higher PAR as well.
SPS coral like a lot of flow, enough to make the polyps extend and flow. Never point the flow directly at the coral, always have it go above, below, or around the coral. If the side being hit with flow loses skin or dies, you likely have too much flow or not enough light.
These details typically lead to SPS coral being placed at the top of the reef tank to allow for the higher light demand and special flow requirements.
