Sundial Snails / Box Snails
Last updated on November 17th, 2023
About Sundial Snails / Box Snails
Sundial snails, also known as box snails, have shells that wrap around like a sundial with alternating black and white bands and are known to eat zoanthid coral.
How to Prevent Sundial Snails
The best way to prevent sundial snails is to dip coral before adding them to the reef tank. As for adding live rock, you should treat live rock outside of the tank and not add wet live rock to any aquarium. This will help prevent sundial snails as well as a variety of other pests from entering your reef tank. With careful inspection, you should be able to prevent sundial snails from entering your reef tank.
How to Get Rid of Sundial Snails
You can simply remove sundial snails and their eggs by hand or using a pair of tweezers as soon as they are spotted.
What Eats Sundial Snails
There are no known predators for Sundial Snails that are safe for most reef tanks. Fish such as pufferfish and triggerfish may eat these snails, however, they will eat all invertebrates, and some coral as well.
