Pyramid Snails (Pyrams)
Last updated on November 17th, 2023
About Pyramid Snails
Pyramid snails, or Pyrams, are small, pointy snails that bother and can eat invertebrates in the reef tank. These snails are especially dangerous to clams.
How to Prevent Pyramid Snails
The best way to prevent pyramid snails is to dip coral before adding them to the reef tank. As for adding live rock, you should treat live rock outside of the tank and not add wet live rock to any aquarium. This will help prevent pyramid snails as well as a variety of other pests from entering your reef tank. With careful inspection, you should be able to prevent pyramid snails from entering your reef tank.
How to get Rid of Pyramid Snails
To get rid of pyramid snails, you can remove the infected clam, snail, or other invertebrate and scrub the pyramid snails off with a toothbrush. Manual removal with a tweezers will also help eradicate the pyramid snails from the reef tank.
What Eats Pyramid Snails
Six Line Wrasse, Eight Line Wrasse and Melanurus Wrasse eat pyramid snails, as well as many other reef tank pests. These fish can help get rid of pyramid snails before they get out of hand.
