About Acro Eating Flatworms (AEFW)
Acro Eating Flatworms, also known as AEFL, are small, clear, blob like worms. These flatworms are often discovered by bite marks or eggs on acro coral.
How to Prevent Acro Eating Flatworms
Acro eating flatworms, as the name suggests, focus on eating acro frags and colonies. The best prevention method is to dip all of you coral, especially acros, in Coral RX Coral Dip and/or Beyer (BioAdvanced) Insect Killer before adding them to your reef tank. Additionally, quarantining the corals before adding them to your reef to ensure there are no pests will help prevent acro eating flatworms.
How to Get Rid of Acro Eating Flatworms
To get rid of acro eating flatworms, the best method is to remove the acro from your tank and dip them in Coral RX Coral Dip and/or Beyer (BioAdvanced) Insect Killer. Then you will need to remove the eggs using an X-Acto blade as they are not affected by the dipping. You will need to do this every few days to a week until the acro eating flatworms are gone, and the bite marks are gone as well.
What Eats Acro Eating Flatworms
Much like regular flatworms, Six Line Wrasse and Melanurus Wrasse will help keep Acro Eating Flatworms under control. One thing to note though is that the fish will not be as effective with acro eating flatworms as they are much harder to see than regular flatworms.
